Question: I think my psoriasis has something to do with my tonsils. I got strep throat and started getting breakouts of the disease. None of the topographical creams work, ONLY sunlight and UV treatment. After light treatment once a week I have no sign of the disease. Does anyone know if removing my tonsils will reduce the breakouts? I have read about some studies online, but no definite results.
Answer: Psoriasis outbreaks can be caused by bacterial and viral infections. Your immune system goes into overdrive, and with proriasis, it is focused on the wrong area. Taking out your tonsils would be a pretty extreme way of dealing with this. Try supplementing with probiotics and evening primrose oil, even when you don't have outbreaks. When you get an outbreak, try upping the amount of evening primrose oil. Proper dosage is different for different people. Obviously, if you react negatively, reduce the dose, or discontinue. Limit your stress, and try to boost your immune system so you aren't so susceptible to the bacteria. Garlic, vitamin c, zinc, goldenseal, are just a few of the things you can supplement with to boost the immunity, besides eating a proper diet with lots of raw fruits and vegetables. I have psoriasis, and usually I would just break out in winter. The last two years, I had it all over my head not stop. I started taking probiotics and evening primrose oil a couple months ago and my head is clear.
