Can wearing lycra and cotton knickers cause psoriasis in the groin?

Question: I have only ever bought and worn cotton pants, recently my friend brought me some really nice comfy knickers, the fabric is a mix of lycra and cotton. I always wash new underwear before wearing for the first time anyway, but almost right from the minute I put them on I started itching , around my groin, I have now been left with a really red patch of skin around my groin. It is not painful just itchy but not all the time, the skin feels quite dry and rough to the touch. Any ideas, I have been told by the pharmacy to wash in coal tar soap and use canestan cream on the rash. Please help. I am doctor phobic so that is not an option.

Answer: I think it's an allergic reaction to the knickers, burn them. The Pharmacist suggested canesten cream (for yeast infections) if this doesn't work I'd try a zinc cream (zincofax or penaten) or any zinc cream recommended for a baby's diaper rash. Our whole family uses zinc cream on mild skin abrasions...it takes away the itch. You already know this but stick to the cotton undies.
