 | Itchy, painful sore on back of scalp--how to treat? |

Question: Over the weekend, a tender spot on the back of my scalp became itchy and sore. I was travelling and think I got bit by a bug.The spot is an area that was injured during a bike accident years ago. Everything I've read has said a head trauma can make the scalp more vulnerable to infections, wounds, etc.It is a small, raised, yellowish spot and it keeps weeping and crusting over and weeping again (gross, I know!). I have been dabbing hydrogen peroxide on it to try to keep it clean. It hurts and is so tender, it's driving me crazy. Any tips on what this might be and how to treat it before I resort to seeing my doc?
Answer: Go see a dermatologist. Scalp lesions can be tricky for general practitioners - it could be an infection, a skin cancer, a cyst...just go have it checked.
