What could be the cause of my itchy scalp?

Question: I'm a guy, 26 years old. My hair is about average length and I wash it regularly with a gentle shampoo and conditioner.Yet for some reason my scalp gets itchy. I don't think I have dandruff (never noticed flakes on my shirts) and I'm not losing my hair.Anyone have any idea what I could try?

Answer: It sounds like dry scalp, except you do not seem to have any dry scalp flakes. Maybe you are not getting all the conditioner out of your hair. Try rinsing for longer.Try scrubbing you head all over real good with your fingernails when you wash your hair. This will cause good circulation on your scalp and may help to prevent dryness or whatever is causing the itch. You should scrub really good to get the blood flowing every time you shampoo.Hope that helps. As for the hair loss. Could be caused by not enough blood flow. See if scrubbing helps, if not talk to your doctor. Hair loss can be caused by heredity, poor diet, lack of certain vitamins or minerals in your diet and most importantly by stress. Yes, stress will make your hair fall out!!Do you have small children? If so check the kids for lice. If they have lice you could, too. Don't freak, easily treatable! No, the brushes in the store are not a necessity. Your fingernails work better because you can feel the pressure you are applying on both your fingers and your scalp. And sometimes if you have any length to your hair it will get wrapped around the brush and can be painful to get out and you will lose a few hairs in the process. And if your scalp already itches if you avoid shampooing and cleaning your hair and scalp regularly the itch will only worsen. Trust me!If you sweat any at all on your head, that can cause itching and discomfort. Shampoo with a gentle shampoo daily to remove any sweat that may be on your scalp. If you remember to always scrub the scalp to stimulate the blood flow you should be able to alleviate your problem.Try using a shampoo or conditioner for adding moisture to your hair if you think dry scalp may be the problem.
